Gareth Southgate: I don’t miss managing England
Former England manager Gareth Southgate has opened up about his time in charge of the national team, revealing that he doesn’t miss the role.
Southgate, who took charge of the England team in 2016 and led them to the semi-finals of the 2018 World Cup, stepped down from the role after the 2020 European Championships.
In a recent interview, Southgate said, “I don’t miss managing England. It was a huge privilege and honour to lead my country, but it was also a huge responsibility and pressure.”
The 51-year-old went on to say that managing a national team is a unique challenge and that he is enjoying his current role as a club manager.
Southgate is currently in charge of Premier League side Manchester United and has led them to success in both domestic and European competitions.
Despite his success at the club level, Southgate said that he will always look back on his time with the England national team with fondness.
He added, “Managing England was an incredible experience and one that will always hold a special place in my heart. But I am focused on my current role and helping Manchester United achieve their goals.”
Southgate’s honesty about his feelings towards managing England has been met with praise from fans and pundits alike, who have commended him for his candor and professionalism.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Southgate, but one thing is for certain – his time as England manager will always be remembered fondly by supporters of the national team.
